Machen wir wieder einmal einen Blick über die Grenzen, diesmal etwas weiter nach Frankreich.
Mehr als 200 Schulcomputer in der Stadt Fontaine im Südosten Frankreichs werden mit elementary OS betrieben. Es ist ein GNU / Linux-basiertes Betriebssystem. Benutzerfreundlich mit einem schönen Layout und einem hohen Maß an Datensicherheit. Elementary OS bietet Schülern die Möglichkeit, Kenntnisse über digitale Technologien zu erlangen, ohne proprietären Technologieunternehmen dauerhafte digitale Spuren zu hinterlassen.

A lot of schools are just all Microsoft houses, but so is Google and Google is pushing ChromeBooks and whatever else devices they have. And of course, these are all surveillance devices. Right? And even if they don’t surveil the kids, the if they say, OK, we’re not going to, because initially they were, you know, and then the people were like, don’t do this. This is really bad. And they’re like, oh, OK, if it’s really bad, we won’t do it. But these, the real danger I see here is that we normalise surveillance capitalism for a whole new generation that, you know, a company that makes its billions by tracking everyone, profiling them and then manipulating them, using that intimate insight is just normal, is OK, is fine. Darüber hinaus wird auch der Laptop Pine64 vorgestellt. Dieser könnte eine wirklich günstige als Alternative zu Google Chrome-books sein, bei dem die Nutzerinnen und Nutzer die Datenhoheit behalten, da er mit einem Freien Open Source Betriebssystem ausgeliefert wird.
